Upper 3-3 Twistflex
Upper 3-3 bonding, also known as bonded retainers or fixed lingual retainers, involves attaching a thin wire to the back surfaces of the upper front teeth (usually canine to canine) using dental adhesive.
Benefits
Permanent retention: Unlike removable retainers that need to be worn and maintained by the patient, upper 3-3 bonding provides a permanent solution for maintaining the alignment of the upper front teeth. It is bonded in place and remains fixed, ensuring continuous support and stability.
Invisible appearance: The bonded wire is placed on the lingual (tongue-side) surfaces of the teeth, making it virtually invisible when smiling or talking. This is especially beneficial for individuals who prefer a discreet option for maintaining their orthodontic results.
Comfort and convenience: Once the upper 3-3 bonding is placed, there is no need for the patient to remember to wear or remove the retainer. It eliminates the potential inconvenience or discomfort associated with removable retainers, as there are no adjustments or placement required by the patient.
Enhanced retention: The bonded wire provides excellent retention and helps prevent the upper front teeth from shifting or relapsing after orthodontic treatment. It offers strong support and stability, ensuring that the teeth maintain their corrected position over the long term.
Minimal impact on speech: While it may take a short adjustment period to get used to the presence of the wire, upper 3-3 bonding typically has minimal impact on speech compared to other types of fixed retainers that may cover a larger surface area.
Reduced risk of loss or damage: Since the upper 3-3 bonding is fixed in place, there is no risk of misplacing or losing the retainer. It also reduces the likelihood of accidentally damaging or breaking the retainer during handling or storage.
Recommended Use
Post-orthodontic treatment: After completing orthodontic treatment, including braces or aligners, upper 3-3 bonding can be used to maintain the alignment of the upper front teeth. It helps prevent relapse and ensures that the corrected teeth remain in their desired position.
Mild to moderate crowding: Upper 3-3 bonding can be beneficial in cases of mild to moderate crowding of the upper front teeth. It provides continuous support and helps prevent the teeth from shifting or becoming misaligned.
Rotations or tipping of the upper front teeth: If there are minor rotations or tipping of the upper front teeth, upper 3-3 bonding can help stabilize them in their corrected position.
Correcting midline discrepancies: When there is a slight deviation or misalignment of the midline (centerline) of the upper front teeth, upper 3-3 bonding can be used to maintain the corrected midline position.
Combination with removable retainers: In some cases, upper 3-3 bonding may be used in combination with removable retainers. This is often done to provide additional retention and stability for specific teeth or to address more complex orthodontic issues.
